First-year Students

Are you a (future) first-year student of African Studies or any other programme and interested in Africa? Than, Mugusa is the association for you! On this page, we will briefly introduce the association and the steps you can take to become a member, including introduction activities for the academic year of 2023-2024.

What can Mugusa offer you?

Unlike other study associations, Mugusa does not sell course books as of yet. For most courses, books are not necessary. If you are looking for a specific book, you can send a message to the WhatsApp community. It is highly likely that students in higher years still have literature from earlier years.

What Mugusa can offer is a network of students that all have their own interests in Africa. We offer a diverse community with people from all over Europe and Africa, which makes Mugusa the perfect community for anyone wanting to gain a thorough understanding of the continent. To get the most out of this community, we are planning on organising debates, create lessons for high schools, and organise symposiums. Furthermore, you will receive the newsletter ‘Current African Affairs’ every month that updates you on the current news and developments on the African continent.

Lastly, Mugusa organises educational trips in The Netherlands as well as outside of The Netherlands. The travel committee (TRACO) organises an international trip once per academic year.

Introductive activities for first-year members

To be able to get to know your fellow members, we organise a yearly introduction weekend for our new members around September. The weekend will consist of two days of Africa-related activities without an overnight stay.
